current connection 2nd 9 wks

Valerie Everett, author of "Why Bacteria, But Not Humans, Can Live On Caffeine," informs us about the similarities and differences between a human and bacteria.
The author Valerie Everett informs us by saying, "Bacteria survives on caffeine." In other words, humans need to also consume vitamins and minerals. Bacteria does not need much to live on as us humans do. Without the calories from caffeine, the bacteria would cease to exist.

The author also states, "We don't have the gears to digest the derivatives further." After taking caffeine it gives our human bodies energy for a while, but then we hit our crashing point. Bacteria does have those "gears" unlike us that is why they rely on caffeine for their calories.

The author also infroms, "bacterium... it posses several enzymes that do things to caffeine that we can't..." The enzymes help bacteria break caffeine down. Our enzymes and their enzymes differ in the functions that they can do. Bacteria uses the caffeine as a source of energy unlike us we only us it for a short energy boast or just to consume some yummy chocolate.

The only close relationship that I have with caffeine is candy! And a few soda's every now and then. But candy such as chocolate are high in caffeine. I don't use it as a source of energy I use it as a source of candy! People always say, "I can't live without my coffee in the morning." I'm not a fan of coffee, but those who say that use the coffee as an energy source and will end up hitting their crashing point! We're not like bacteria they rely on caffeine.

The author Valerie Everett has informed the reader about the comparison between a human and bacteria regarding caffeine.

Current Connection: #1 2nd 9 wks.

In an article, published by Fox News titled, "Government report on secret flying saucer program made," informs their readers by telling them about the program and describing the details of the saucer.

Evidence from the report tells, “The NDC in College Park, Md., opened one of more than 100 cardboard boxes from the Air Force recently and came across a 114 page document from 1956 sure to interest the tin-foil-hat crowd; a document describing a secret program by the Air Force to wild a flying saucer.” They tell about how they discovered a flying saucer. There was a document hiding a secret to make this saucer.

The author also explains, “It reveals that the Air Force had contracted the construction of the craft to a Canadian company, Avro Aircraft Limited in Ontario.” They basically planned to make this saucer in a Canadian Company in Ontario.

Lastly they reported, “The disk-shaped craft, which comes complete with an ejector seat and was powered by a ‘ram jet’ was designed to reach a top speed of Mach 4, was designed to reach a top speed of Mach 4 and reach a ceiling of more than 100,000 feet…” The flying saucer was designed to reach a ceiling of more than 100,000 feet. And has an eject seat along with that it reaches a high speed of Mach 4.

I have always thought about how cool it would be if a flying saucer really did exist. As a child, I would remember seeing flying saucers on cartoons.
The author has informed us about the flying saucer they had planned to make.

Bell Work 11/12/2012

It is appropriate to allow one to defend their ideals and not tolerate an other's ideals. How one may ask? One can not frown upon for being perfect at certain areas than others. They have a right to defend they're ideals! Hated by many, Oscar Garcia, deserves respect for being a good test taker. Oscar Garcia, being respected by few, defends his perfections. He doesn't tolerate other's hating on him he simply puts his best foot forward and moves on. You, as a student, lost no respect from myself for defending your ideals. Do not tolerate other's bashing on your ideas.

Current Connection #2

The authors main purpose talks about the Batesville Pioneers (5A) loss to the Jonesboro Hurricane (6A). The author also states about how we went toe-to-toe with this bigger school and a great game for both teams. The author specifically says, "They were able to go up against them a couple of times, but they also made some plays on short passes that would have been bigger plays otherwise... They went toe-to-toe with them most of the time." I completely agree with the fact that we played a great game and not did we only lose to a bigger school divison than us but we went toe-to-toe with them most of the time. If we could of fixed some of the mistakes, then things would of been differently.

Current Connection

The authors main purpose of this article is to inform us that athletic trainers are provided to all schools. Keith Sherman, athletic trainers of Batesville School District, does whatever is possible to prevent injuries. The text says, "Athletic trainers...provide injury prevention and conditioning program, injury evaluation prepare athletes for practice and competition..." I agree with this text that athletic trainers are completely helpful. Keith, does a very good job to help out an injury and maintain it well and strong. There's no doubt that trainers are completely useful and helpful. This helps our athletes, and shows our community how much we care.

Inference, Evidence, Explanation, 9/11.

Inference: They're are 71 elevators and 5 of those go really fast, possible for any other attack that could happen.

Evidence: Those 5 fast elevators reach at a speed of 23mph! And it only takes 45 seconds to get from the bottom all the way to the top!

Explanation: They'll be prepared for any attack that could happen! It's crazy how fast the elevators travel!

Oscar's Reading Bucket List

13 Reasons Why - by Jay Asher: This book grasps my attention because of the fact that it leaves one wondering and pointing fingers, kind of like a detective looking for clues and reasoning. Whenever Ms. Gilmore was telling me about this book it just gave me the shivers, quite frankly it left me on the edge of my seat. This book is about a girl who committed suicide because of 13 people, but before doing this she made 13 videos of her telling them why she is committing suicide. Now, if that's not creepy I don't know what is. I have my mind set on reading this book one way or another, it just really catches my attention.

Lord of the Flies - by William Golding: Ms. Gilmore brought this book to my attention by describing it as something nasty. This book has survival all over it! I like reading books that are adventurous because of the energy going throughout, you never know what will jump out at you! She claims no one would want to read it, but Peter and I accepted that challenge. Not saying this book is bad, but that it has nasty things to say is what Ms. Gilmore had said.

The Lucky One - by Nickolas Sparks: Haley Clem, a fellow classmate of mine, had told me that this was a really good movie and she's working on the book as of now. She told me it was about a a guy who found a picture of a girl and was on a quest to travel around the world just to find her, talk about dedication! He later stumbles across the presence of her and that's all she had told me! It let me wanting to know more of what had happened after that!

Hoot - by Carl Hiaasen: I've seen this movie numerous times and I want to know if it's true what people say about the book always being better than the movie. To me it has always been, watch movie then read book, or it might even be never read the book! I really liked the movie I could watch it endless times! But Ms. Gilmore always says read the book before ever watching the movie.

I Pity the Fool Who (Question Mark?)

The man does not deserve pity after all that he has done to all those innocent people. He was just asking one Jew who probably wouldn't get to live much longer who could get killed any second, for pity. "Then from the other windows fell burning bodies"; is how he described the burning building. The large house was full of innocent people with explosives and bombs being thrown inside with SS men surrounding the large building; wth guns loaded ready to shoot anybody who were to try to escape. Their the man was along with all the other SS man watching: suffering, burning, and smoking bodies.

Forgive&Forget That's The Motto, Y.O.L.O.

"Two boys open fire in a high school, killing several and wounding many others."

To think that someone would want to kill others and themselves for their own personal satisfaction. That would have to be the most outrageous thing I have ever heard! Why would someone do that? Hurting innocent people without a reason, just to do it! There is no way that person could be forgive! I mean, what have those innocent people ever done to him?
